National Director's Message

PMS General Assembly

In May I attended the General Assembly of the Pontifical Mission Societies. During this meeting the National Directors were again referred to statute 19 of Pontifical Missions Societies where we find about the specific objective of these societies: “the best service we can offer to our brothers and sisters is evangelisation, which helps them to live and act as children of God, sets them free from injustices and assists their overall development”.

This objective reflects what John Paul II in his encyclical for the new millennium heralded as the new Pentecost for our times: “We must rekindle in ourselves the impetus of the beginnings and allow ourselves to be filled with the ardour of the apostolic preaching which followed Pentecost. We must revive in ourselves the burning conviction of Paul, who cried out, Woe to me if I do not preach the Gospel” (1. Cor 9,16).

It is a very consoling fact that there is a growing conviction among the People of God that in order to save humanity as a whole, the Gospel proclamation is necessary.

I am sure that we, who pride ourselves as living in the island of St. Paul, in this year dedicated to this great missionary, will strengthen our convictions and increase our contributions to offer holistic salvation to more people thirsting for it.
